Wednesday 27th August 2003 50km (2421km) Day 42 of 77
Alarm went off at 6:30am. Procrastination... departed town at 2:30pm. Disappointed that we left so late as there was good tail winds today. Cycled through on open expanse of rocky desert. Near the end of the day we came across our first patch of trees and amongst them we found a small waterhole and set up camp for the night.
Thursday 28th August 2003 88km (2509km) Day 43 of 77
Rose early and watched the sunrise while having breakfast. Had strong headwinds today so pushed on harder than usual and Dan started to suffer back problems as a result. Mid afternoon we came suddenly across a rare vegetated area and river system. Found a great camp site on Eyre's Creek under huge shady trees.

Friday 29th August 2003 61km (2570km) Day 44 of 77
Watched sunrise this morning and started cycling early made a quick dash to Bedourie through strong head/cross winds. Arrived at 3pm, checked into the pub and had a relaxing arvo in the hot springs.
Saturday 30th August 2003 117km (2687km) Day 45 of 77
Procrastinated again today and didn't start cycling until 12:45pm. Today was the beginning of a series of tail wind days. We passed through gently undulating terrain with occasional rocky sections. Had 60km of sealed road!!! Took advantage of the winds and cycled to sunset stopping for the night at a dry creek bed.

Sunday 31st August 2003 86km (2773km) Day 46 of 77
Was up before dawn again, eager to cover the remaining 80km to Boulia. Had tail/cross winds and temperatures still up around 30c. Only stopped once today and it was only for 2 mins, enough time to change the GPS batteries. Rolled into town at lunchtime. Checked into pub. All shops were closed, so a wasted afternoon.
