We made it!
After taking a slightly overgrown track today, we arrived at the northern most point of the mainland in disbelief. We dragged our bikes across 500m of steep, rocky ridges and then enjoyed a warm beer at the top of Australia. The two of us had a quick dip in the water, then cycled back to town late in the afternoon. Tim's tyre finally gave in bursting after only 5km of the way back. It was at this point we realised we had no more good tubes left. Luckily, a couple drove past and offered us a lift, which we were overjoyed to accept, now that our journey is complete. We have been offered many rides in the past 11 weeks and even at the worst times have declined. They gave us a cold beer each and helped throw the bikes on top. Then, taking a side each with one hand on a roof rack and the other on the beer they drove us right to our door in Bamaga.
We got on a plane the next morning with our bikes and arrived back home in Melbourne on the Friday. A great surprise party was organised for us on Saturday night. We both agree that the trip was well worth it. We want to thank all those great people who helped us on the way. We never could have finished without all the support. We are looking forward to the next big adventure...
