This initial stage of my journey involved not only driving to the Simpson Desert, but also across it so that I could bury my food drops. By the time we reached Tiboburra the rain came and caused delays and car problems in the mud. My 4WD's cooling system wasn't working properly and the car was overheating from the steep sand dunes.
